Rommy was twenty-three when he died. He was seeing a guy called Ambrosio Da Veli, a high-class white dude from the city with a stinking-expensive pad out on Park Avenue. Ambrosio was twenty-seven. He was also a closet homosexual and his trysts with Rommy were always out in Brooklyn where no one could see them together.

Rommy says he never thought Ambrosio would betray him. He says this is what got him killed.

I disagree. Guns are what got him killed. And a beating so bad he was dead before he got to the hospital.

Ambrosio disappeared for a while, and when he turned up again, he was married. Heterosexually married.

There’s only one way Ambrosio could know that Rommy was alive, the same way Kyle thought a drag queen was attacking him from the grave. Rommy lost his cool, and went over and haunted his ex-boyfriend.
